Hank Joins Stacey Abrams in Fair Fight 2020 Kickoff in Snellville

Congressman Hank Johnson with Stacey Abrams promoting Fair Fight

SNELLVILLE — Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) joined Stacey Abrams on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Annistown Elementary School for the launch of the Fair Fight 2020 campaign — a voter protection effort that will be in 20 states, including Georgia.

The school was ground zero for voter suppression tactics in 2018 after multiple machines failed on Election Day, which led to 4-5 hour wait times for people voting. Many people just walked away without voting.

Abrams announced her fair fight and fair count initiatives before a packed gymnasium audience at the school.

Rep. Johnson said he was happy to be there supporting Abrams’ advocacy of voter rights and fair elections in the state and around the country.

“Like the poll taxes and literacy tests of the Jim Crow era, modern voter suppression efforts are real, relentless and effective,” said Johnson. “Efforts to discourage and disenfranchise voters — in voter registration, ballot access, or counting of votes — have a catastrophic effect on our democracy and our communities. That’s why I’m proud to stand here with Stacey Abrams and all our elected officials, activists and forward-thinking volunteers to fight back.
Fight back here in Georgia and around the country.

“Our democracy is at stake ladies and gentlemen – on so many different levels. The fight to preserve our freedoms – our freedom to choose the leaders we want leading our local, state and federal government – starts right here.”
