Hank reaffirms re-election bid

With 200 supporters, Congressman Johnson cites record of effective representation, legislation
 

LITHONIA, GA -- Flanked by his wife Mereda Davis Johnson and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, three sitting DeKalb County commissioners, and dozens of endorsing local leaders from across the District, Congressman Hank Johnson announced in no uncertain terms on Saturday morning his candidacy for a third term representing Georgia’s Fourth Congressional District in the United States Congress.

At campaign headquarters in Lithonia, Ga., Congressman Johnson spoke to an excited and diverse crowd, who braved the rainy weather to show support.

“When you sent me to Congress in 2006, I promised I would provide representation that would make you proud,” Johnson told 200 supporters in attendance. “I promised I would deliver for this district – and I have.”

Citing more than $200 million in federal funds invested in the Fourth District, his rapid rise to a position in the House leadership and the chairmanship of a Judiciary subcommittee, and a legislative record that includes multiple bills signed into law, Congressman Johnson affirmed that he would run on his record.

“This race is about one thing,” said Johnson. “Who can continue to deliver results for the people of the Fourth District?  With that as the standard, I am more than confident we will prevail.”

Atlanta Mayor Reed introduced Congressman Johnson and pledged his support of the Congressman’s campaign. 

In attendance were: Juanita Baranco, business leader and member of the Board of Regents; Doreen Carter, Lithonia City Council; Jay Cunningham, DeKalb County School Board; John Evans, Operation LEAD; Kathie Gannon, DeKalb County Commissioner; Debra Jackson, Lithonia City Council; Ben Myers, IBEW; Richard Oden, chairman of the Rockdale County Commission; state Sen. Ron Ramsey (D-Rockdale-DeKalb); Zepora Roberts, DeKalb County School Board; David Schutten, Organization of DeKalb Educators; Cleveland Stroud, mayor pro-tem Conyers; Gil Turman, president of the South DeKalb Neighborhood Coalition; Theresa Walker, Georgia Black Chamber of Commerce and wife of former DeKalb Commissioner Lou Walker; former DeKalb County commissioner Gale Walldorff; Ruth Wilson, clerk of state court for Rockdale Judicial Circuit; among a host of other dignitaries and members of the community.

Congressman Johnson will attend services Monday morning at historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and he will serve as Grand Marshal of Monday’s NAACP-MLK parade in Stone Mountain.
